The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
